what's this about?
To grow the grains that will help feed the world and address food security issues here at home, our farmers need access to affordable, dependable supplies of the inputs (like fertilizer) they rely on to grow their crops. But global supply shortage and unpredictable prices are creating serious concerns on the farm.
To deliver the grains our country - and the world - need now more than ever, we need government to put policies and agreements in place that will bring predictability to price and supply and allow our farmers to plan, produce and grow the crops needed to address global grain deficits. Without this stability, we may only see global grain deficits climb and compound an already dire food security crisis.
- Remove the tariffs on fertilizer imports and Compensate farmers for increased costs from the tariff levied on fertilizer imports
- Invest in the future of fertilizer supply by taking a thoughtful approach and exploring. Improved trucking capacity, more competitive west to east rail rates, increased west coast port capacity for imports, and better risk management tools – including a way to keep farmers competitive like a Fertilizer Affordability Index – are all ideas explored within the Farmers Need Fertilizer report.
