Agriculture technologies play an important role in ensuring Ontario’s grain farmers can deliver the high-quality, sustainably-grown grains that will help address food security issues at home and abroad. They not only protect crops from the disastrous weeds, pests and diseases that can impact how much grain we can produce, but they reduce the need for plowing/tilling of farmland which results in fewer CO² emissions. What’s more, Canada has some of the strictest regulations globally for their use; Health Canada regulates every pesticide in Canada to ensure it can be used safely and not pose a risk to human health or the environment.

Despite the benefits and strict regulations, the Government of Canada is considering unnecessarily opening and modifying the existing Pest Control Products Act which could affect farmers’ crops and the future yields needed to address global grain deficits and food security concerns. Given the mounting pressures already, that’s the last thing we need.
