what's this about?
If Canada is going to do its part to address food security issues at home and abroad, we need to ensure our farmers have the flexibility to grow, innovate and introduce new sustainable practices and technology while remaining competitive.
We’re calling on the government of Canada to change the AgriStability support trigger to 85%, allowing farmers to access the funding and supports they need to adapt to our changing environment and grow the crops we need to help feed the world, while levelling playing field to ensure local farmers can compete against subsidized imports not subject to carbon-pricing or other regulatory hurdles. In the past five years, the U.S. government has made almost $120 billion in support payments to U.S. farmers. We need a level playing field against imported and subsidized foreign grains and for government to:
- Negotiate tariff-free trade agreements with UK, Indonesia and ASEAN countries
- Prevent non-tariff trade barriers
