Ontario’s grain farmers are doing their part to support a more sustainable future for farming. The key to our success are programs like 4R Nutrient Stewardship Strategy, which has helped farmers across Ontario reduce greenhouse gas emissions by ensuring fertilizer comes from the right source and is used at the right rates, at the right time, in the right place. These programs ensure the farmers who know their land and have the flexibility they need to balance sustainable practices with output to deliver both the crops and GHG reductions we need.

We are asking the government to recognize these programs and the efforts already proven and underway as the solution to achieving their 30% sector emissions reduction goal, and to refrain from implementing further untested policies or restrictions as part of their new Sustainable Canadian Agriculture Policy (SCAP) that might increase already soaring food costs or compound growing food security concerns by further limiting supply.
